On July 20th, 2021, the BACC joined a call organized by the Outdoor Alliance with staff members from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office. Also present at the meeting were representatives from the Access Fund, SF Urban Riders, the California Mountain Biking Coalition, Peak Design, and members of the Outdoor Alliance. About half of those present live, work and/or recreate in Speaker Pelosi’s home district (CA District 12, San Francisco).
A beautiful day at the beach! On Saturday April 24th, the National Park Service (NPS) hosted a small group of 5 volunteers from the Bay Area Climbers Coalition (BACC) at Stinson Beach, Coast Miwok Territory, for training that would allow the BACC to run future Adopt-a-Site stewardship events. The training included a discussion of the on-going projects in the area, review of volunteer safety protocols, introductions to park staff, and a tour of the area. While the volunteers walked and talked, they also picked up trash (3.5 buckets-full or 17.5 gallons!). After the event, a few volunteers enjoyed some much deserved bouldering on the beach. This was the first event organized by our new Stinson Beach stewards Alan and Geoff, and it was a great success! Special thanks to Tracy Neal, the Volunteer-in-Parks (VIP) Coordinator for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and park staff Amber Van Meter and Kari Biel. We are looking forward to organizing larger events with community volunteers once local Covid-19 regulations allow for it!
