Recap: July 2020 Virtual Movie Night

Thanks to all who joined our virtual movie night. We watched An American Ascent, a documentary that tells the story from June 2013 of the first ever African-American expedition to climb Denali. Trivia questions were posted on the Facebook event page during the viewing party for a chance to win BACC swag. Questions included topics relating to the movie, climbing, stewardship and racial equity issues.

As an organization working to preserve access to local outdoor areas, the BACC acknowledges that an important part of “access” is the creation of inclusive and equitable space for climbers of all backgrounds. All proceeds from this event are being given to The Brown Ascenders because we believe their work is critical for the BIPOC climbing community in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Additionally, BACC has committed to matching all donations raised during event registration.

We  raised a total of $1100 for The Brown Ascenders, with $550 in donations from the climbing community and a BACC donation match. Thank you to all who attended, participated and donated! If you weren’t able to attend, you can access the film via http://www.anamericanascent.com/.
