The BACC Fixed Anchor Replacement Team continued their efforts out at Castle Rock this month, with 12 bolts replaced at California Ridge Cliff, including the anchors of 3 of the routes and 6 face bolts. We also experimented with some new techniques for removing button head bolts, which are common in Castle Rock State Park and more difficult to remove than sleeve or wedge bolts. There is still a lot of work to be done, but the psyche is high!
Bolt Replacements Routes:
- “Band Aids on Road Rash” 5.7 – All bolts replaced
- “Guilty as Charged” 5.10 – All bolts replaced
- “Mullah” – 5.10 – First two button head bolts replaced
- “Ayahtollah” – 5.11 – Anchors replaced
Cal Ridge is a great crag with generally steep, juggy climbing leading to technical faces, with grades in the 5.7-12 range. Go check it out and clip some of those shiny new stainless steel glue-ins!
Here we are replacing the bolts.
The old bolts!
The new bolts!
