Indian/Mortar Rock – East Bay – Adopt-A-Crag – March 2017

The Bay Area Climbers Coalition would like to thank all the incredible volunteers, board members, and friends who came out to support our conservation work at Indian Rock/Mortar Rock in the Berkeley Hills on Sunday, March 26. We were excited to partner with the awesome City of Berkeley Parks and Recreation department in this community effort!  We would also like to thank Access Fund for supporting this event with a grant!

With a 50% chance of rain forecast, we saw a solid turnout of 16 volunteers. The weather turned in our favor: cool and dry – perfect for getting out the shovels, wheelbarrows, and pitchforks!
We accomplished quite a bit during this event, including the following:
– We spread 4 truckloads of woodchips in the Pit and main use areas at Indian Rock.
– We removed heaps of downed tree branches from the Pit.
– We cleaned the runoff from the wet winter and resurrected the lower brim of the path near the Pit to prevent future impact on the path.
– We cleaned and rejuvenated paths around Mortar Rock and Indian Rock.
– We had a ton of fun!

The event is the first of many to come over the coming months (we just confirmed Glen Canyon in SF on May 13)! Keep an eye out for updates and upcoming opportunities to be involved soon.
