The Berkeley Triple Adopt-A-Crag – November 2014

The first annual Berkeley Triple was a huge success thanks to the 92 volunteers who took on some needed work at Indian Rock, Mortar Rock, and Cragmont Park.

This event went a very long way in building an even more positive relationship with the City of Berkeley Parks Department. When the climbing community shows up in force like this to support our outdoor climbing areas, it shows land managers that we care and opens up opportunities for future improvements to our crags.

HUGE “Thank You” to our sponsors and partners – these events are operated at zero dollar cost because of their generous support and donations.

Make sure to swing by the Bay Area Climbers Coalition facebook group for more photos!

Highlights Include:

Indian Rock – Removed ivy and other invasive plants from the back wall area next to Picnic Rock. Raked leaves and other debris up around the park and cleared all of the trails off. Picked up three large bags of trash and glass from around the parks.

Mortar Rock – Closed 4 social trails around the park and more clearly defined a common use trail to avoid future social trails. Cleared all existing trails of leaves and debris. Cleared stairs and sidewalk leading up to Mortar Rock. Removed old trash can pole.

Cragmont Park – Cleared ivy and other invasive plant species from rock walls and surrounding hillsides. Trimmed tree branches that were growing too close to the rock face. Recut existing trail and installed check steps at different spots to decrease erosion and provide easier use for patrons. Removed old and rotted timber from back trail that connects climbing areas back up to the basketball court area – used large broken cement pieces to rebuild retaining wall and create steps for much safer use.

Thank you to our sponsors and partners!
